PIKESVILLE, MD, June 17, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Bernard A. Cohen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Driven by an interest in medicine, Dr. Cohen earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine four years later. Subsequently, he completed a residency in pediatrics through Johns Hopkins and a chief residency in pediatrics through Sinai Hospital. Dr. Cohen began as an attending physician in primary care and pediatric emergency care at Sinai Hospital while pursuing a residency in dermatology through Johns Hopkins.
While studying in medical school, Dr. Cohen discovered a deficit in dermatological care for children and decided to specialize in that area. Throughout the course of his career, he gained valuable expertise in medicine and education as the Director of Pediatric Dermatology for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, an assistant professor of dermatology and pediatrics for the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine and an associate director of the Pigmented Lesion and Melanoma Unit at the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Dr. Cohen also served as Director of Pediatric Dermatology and the Cutaneous Laser Center at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.
Drawing on decades of excellence in pediatric dermatology, Dr. Cohen excels today as a professor of both disciplines at The Johns Hopkins University's School of Medicine. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he aligns himself with a plethora of organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, The Maryland Dermatologic Society, the American Dermatology Association and the International Society of Vascular Anomalies, to name only a few. Additionally, Dr. Cohen is a member of the medical advisory board of the Office of Continuing Medical Education Programs.
In light of his professional acumen, Dr. Cohen has contributed to a multiple book chapters and articles, including one on Staphylococcal Scalded Skin Syndrome in 2020. The fifth edition of his book Pediatric Dermatology is scheduled for publication this fall! Due to his outstanding body of work, he has earned numerous accolades. In addition to earning a recognition of support through the Stevens-Johnson Foundation in 2002, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Teaching, Dedication and Commitment through Anne Arundel Community College in 2003, the Attendant of the Year through Johns Hopkins in 1996 and the Joseph A. Gilmartin Lectureship at the Mercy Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics in 1995. More recently, he received the Sunshine Award in 2020 for his work in dermatology. In the near future, Dr. Cohen intends to focus more on patient care and education, while also mentoring upcoming industry professionals.
