Although she did not originally plan to pursue a career in waste management, Ms. Henfield allowed her Christian faith to forge a path forward. A single mother of two daughters, she was driven to provide them with opportunities that would lead to fulfilling lives. Ms. Henfield first obtained a security job with the HUD Public Housing Program for 5 years. She then took advantage of training that was being offered by the county and became a certified waste management driver.
Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Henfield gained valuable professional expertise with Miami Dade Solid Waste, where she worked as a messenger, attendant, truck driver, supervisor and division director of the county. Between 2009 and her retirement in 2021, she excelled and became the first female division chief for the garbage operation with Miami Dade Solid Waste, where she oversaw waste services for nearly 350,000 customers in Miami Dade County. Along with her work in waste management, Ms. Henfield has served in ministry for many years with Covenant Temple Church Worldwide.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Henfield aligned herself with the United Way of Miami-Dade and the Solid Waste Association of North America. Dedicated to those less fortunate, she also frequently raised funds for cancer awareness and through United Way. Due to her outstanding breadth of knowledge, she earned a Service Award for 35 Years of Dedication to Miami-Dade County. In the near future, Ms. Henfield intends to continue helping those in need despite being recently retired.
