Growing up with learning disabilities, Ms. Dowd was proud to be able to contribute to the education of others, and credits her success on her deep and abiding Christian faith, as well as her dedication and perseverance.
Ms. Dowd self-published a novel, titled "One Flesh." Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue writing and plans to author a book of poetry in the near future. Long dedicated to artistic expression, Ms. Dowd is grateful to have an outlet to express herself and her feelings.
Active in her community, Ms. Dowd often volunteers at her local Catholic church during her free time. Honored for her achievements in education, she received an Outstanding American Teachers Award. While teaching, Ms. Dowd was notably active as a member of the National Education Association.
After obtaining a bachelor's degree, Ms. Dowd continued her studies by receiving a Master of Arts in special education at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1978. She also completed additional training at the Trinity Bible Institute.
