Well-regarded as a writer and an art historian, Dr. Basquin found success as an associate in the print study room of the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 2000 until her retirement in 2014. Appointed as a research associate of the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 2000, she was first marketing associate and then exhibition manager at William Doyle New York Galleries in 2000, a curator of the Marvin Lowe retrospective at the Indiana University Art Museum in 1998 and the director of Outreach Milwaukee of the Wisconsin Humanities Council from 1995 to 1998. Dr. Basquin additionally was a curator of education at the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University from 1988 to 1995.
Dr. Basquin previously worked as the director of the Kit Basquin Gallery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 1981 to 1983, the director of Washington Gallery in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1977 to 1979, the director of Washington Gallery in Frankfort, Indiana from 1972 to 1978 and the assistant director of public relations of the Indianapolis Museum of Art from 1971 to 1972. She was secretary of the board of directors for the Manhattan Graphics Center in 2020-2021, a member of MasterVoices since 2015, a member of Collegiate Chorale from 2013 to 2015 and an advisory board member of Gordon Peaks Gallery of the Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2012 to 2013. A curator of "Wording the Image" of the Sherman Gallery in Boston from 2010 to 2011, Dr. Basquin served as a guest curator of The Gallery of the College of Staten Island, City University of New York from 2009 to 2010, a president of Print Forum Milwaukee Art Museum from 1996 to 1997 and an instructor at Marquette University in Gaza in 1996.
A member of the program committee of the Midwest Museum Conference in Milwaukee in 1992, Dr. Basquin was a member of the prints and drawings subcommittee of the Milwaukee Art Museum from 1991 to 1999, an art history instructor of Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin in 1991, the president of the Contemporary Art Society of the Milwaukee Art Museum from 1986 to 1987 and an art history teacher in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 1967 to 1968. The author of a biography titled "Mary Ellen Bute: Pioneer Animator" in 2020, she was credited as the Wisconsin editor of the New Art Examiner from 1980 to 1981. She continues as a member of the James Joyce Society. She has been a member of The University Club since 1988, serving on the Library and Arts Committee, the Special Events Committee, and now the Musical Affairs Committee.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Basquin pursued an education at Goucher College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. Obtaining a Master of Arts from Indiana University in 1970, she later earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati in 2009. Among her numerous achievements, she has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York with MasterVoices. Moreover, Dr. Basquin was highlighted in the 71st edition of Who's Who in America.
