While coming of age, Mr. McGeary became a strident advocate for environmental awareness as wastewater treatment and other crises grew in severity. He went on to receive an Associate of Art in economics and an Associate of Science in pollution control, both from Broward College. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. McGeary was also certified with an A-Class operator's license in the state of Florida.
Mr. McGeary began his career with the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He remained active in this role for more than three decades before rising to become the chief of operations at the Water Reclamation Facility in Davie, Florida. Under Mr. McGeary's direction, the facility was presented with the David York Award, recognizing it as the best performing facility of its size.
As a leader in his field, Mr. McGeary has trained more than 50 people to become licensed in the industry. He also conducts community tours of plants for universities in order to spread awareness, as well as recruit potential workers. For his professional efforts, he received the Joseph V. Towry Award from the Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association, and is a six-time winner of the State of Florida Operators Challenge. In accounting for his standout success, Mr. McGeary credits his dedication to hard work and a great team of operators.
