SAUCIER, MS, September 10, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James H. Roberds has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Roberds obtained a Bachelor of Science in forest management from North Carolina State University in 1960 and earned a Master of Science in forestry from the aforementioned university five years later. In 1971, he was recruited as a research geneticist for the United States Forest Service. Throughout the following three plus decades, Mr. Roberds conducted genetics research on populations of various forest tree species while establishing his expertise in quantitative and population genetics.
In the early 2000s, Mr. Roberds contributed over a dozen articles to several scientific journals, such as The Journal of Difference Equations and Applications, The Journal of the American Chestnut Foundation and Advanced Studies in Pure Mathematics. Since retiring from the United States Forest Service in 2008, he has resumed his research as a volunteer geneticist with the United States Forest Service. Mr. Roberds has additionally continued publishing his findings in scientific journals, and he remains an active affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Sigma Xi.
Mr. Roberds was inspired to pursue a career in forestry by his lifelong affinity for the outdoors, which began during his childhood in Chatham County, Georgia. He also attributes a great deal of his success to the support of his mentors during the early stages of his career. Mr. Roberds is particularly grateful to have worked alongside the late Dr. Bruce Zobel and also the late Dr. Gene Namkoong, both of whom were previous members of the faculty at North Carolina State University and were internationally recognized as outstanding scientists carrying out research in the field of forest genetics.
