COLUMBIA, MD, September 22, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lane Jennings, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Jennings celebrates many years' professional experience in journalism, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A futurist writer and editor for most of his career, Dr. Jennings served for nearly four decades with the World Future Society (WFS). Originally hired as a book reviewer and staff writer for The Futurist magazine in 1976, he was named research director and editor for the WFS Bulletin in 1978, and production editor for Future Survey in 1979, two positions he maintained until retirement. The WFS was established in the mid-1960s in Bethesda, Maryland, as an unbiased clearinghouse of information on trends and forecasts serving the international community of futurists and future thinkers. Eventually Dr. Jennings spent nine years as managing editor of the World Future Review, beginning in 2006, and retired from this full-time position in 2015.
While continuing to work for WFS, he simultaneously served as the head writer and vice president of creative operations for SAI TV Productions in Annapolis, Maryland, between the years of 1984 and 1989, where he helped produce documentary television dramas broadcast in the US and Europe. In retirement, Dr. Jennings continues to work as a freelance editor and writer for various clients in the Washington, D.C. area, and abroad.
As an extension of his writing career, Dr. Jennings was involved as a literary advisor and interpreter for Goethe Haus/German Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 1995 to 2015. He was also a literary advisor and panel member for the Maryland State Arts Council in Baltimore between 1998 and 1999 and a literary advisor panel member for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., during 2000.
Prior to his decades as a writer/editor, Dr. Jennings worked for the U.S. Department of State as an escort/interpreter in 1970 and 1971. He subsequently spent another five years with the National Savings and Loan League in Washington as an assistant director in their international department from 1971 to 1976.
During the course of his career, Dr. Jennings edited, co-edited and served as a contributing author for a number of future-related books and served as manuscript editor for several scholarly works published by the Stanford University Press, Swann Publishing, and other publishing houses. Since the 1970s he has earned a laudable reputation as a writer of poetry, and more recently his first novel, entitled "Satisfaction," was published in 2016. Shortly thereafter, he served as co-translator and copy editor for the English language edition of "The Future of Humanity," by Chinese futurist Zhouying Jin, released through Intellect Publishers in 2018.
For more than two decades, from 1992 to 2019, Dr. Jennings was the volunteer program leader of a poets' group at Iona Senior Services in Washington. He is a longtime member of The Writers Center in Bethesda, the World Futures Studies Federation, and a life member of the Modern Language Association.
Dr. Jennings received a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, at Williams College in 1966. Then, following a summer spent teaching spoken English to teachers in Hong Kong, he was a Fulbright scholar at the University of Munich from 1966 to 1967. After this he was accepted to Harvard University, where he completed a Master of Arts in 1968, was awarded a travelling fellowship to Berlin, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in German literature in 1970.
