LA GRANGE, TX, September 24, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Retta Slavik Chandler has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Chandler has always been proud of her Czech heritage, especially the ethnic singing and dancing that she enjoyed throughout her childhood. However, it was not until much later in life that she realized the importance of preserving Czech values for future generations. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, she attended Tarleton State University to earn a Master of Education in supervision and management.
During her time at the latter institution, Ms. Chandler enrolled in several courses related to Native American, African-American and Hispanic culture. These courses helped her discover how much she valued her own culture, and that it was her responsibility to share the traditions of her ancestors with younger individuals of Czech descent. Upon this realization, Ms. Chandler became involved with a number of Czech organizations, such as the Czech Ex-Students Association.
Since 1997, Ms. Chandler has utilized her fervent passion for teaching Czech values and history as the president of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center Inc. Remaining devoted to her educational efforts, she was honored to receive the Civil Society Vision Award from the American Friends of the Czech Republic in 2019. Prior to her tenure with the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center, she thrived as a secondary math teacher for more than 30 years and a consultant for 5 years. Additionally, Ms. Chandler remains an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as the Catholic Daughters of America.
