Retired since 2001, Dr. Wolterstorff has the distinguished title of Noah Porter Professor Emeritus of Philosophical Theology, Yale University. He was a professor in Yale Divinity School from 1989 until his retirement, and held adjunct appointments in the philosophy department of Yale and the religious studies Department. Before moving to Yale, he taught in the philosophy department of Calvin College from 1959-1989. Since retiring from Yale, he has been Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture at the University of Virginia. Beyond his primary appointments, Prof. Wolterstorff has delivered named series of lectures at Oxford University, St Andrews University (Scotland), Princeton Theological Seminary, the Free University of Amsterdam, and Yale University.
Passionate about his field of philosophy, Dr. Wolterstorff has specialized in the areas of philosophy of religion, political philosophy, and philosophy of art. He has published more than 250 articles and thirty books, including "Justice: Rights and Wrongs" (2008) and "Art Rethought" (2015).
Dr. Wolterstorff received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College in 1953 and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1956. He is the former president of the Central Division of the American Philosophical Association, he is a founding member and former president of the Society of Christian Philosophers, and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
