In 2021 she was awarded Deputy of the Quarter with her current agency, Colleton County Sheriff's Office.
HARDEEVILLE, SC, January 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cpl. Julie L. Swank has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Swank is currently a corporal for the Colleton County Sheriff's Office. In this capacity, she performs patrol duties, responds to calls for service, enforces local, state, and federal laws, and holds a supervisor position over a team on road patrol. She participates in community-oriented police activities, but moreover she investigates all crimes, prosecutes low misdemeanor charges in magistrate court, and testifies in general sessions court on felony cases. Her duties also include collecting evidence at crime scenes, forensic photography, and serving arrest warrants. Ms. Swank is proud to serve with a law enforcement agency that is deeply enmeshed with the community, especially in regards to repairing the frayed relationships between the minority population and law enforcement.
Prior to ensuring her current role in law enforcement, Ms. Swank served in the United States Navy and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Second Class while on active duty for 8 years as an Engineman and earned the rank of Petty Officer First Class in the Navy Select Reserves for a year. Having a life-time goal and passion for law enforcement, she left the Navy and pursued a formal education with National University in La Jolla, California. There she earned an Associate of Arts in Education, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, and graduated with a Master of Science in Forensic Science Specialization in Investigations in 2019.
In 2017 Ms. Swank was notably distinguished as Officer of the Quarter by Beaufort City Police Department in South Carolina, where she first started her career in law enforcement. In 2021 she was also awarded Deputy of the Quarter with her current agency, Colleton County Sheriff's Office. Likewise, she has received three Navy Marine Corp Achievement Medals, an Army Achievement Medal for her service in a combat zone overseas, and two Humanitarian Medals for search and rescue efforts for the 2009 tsunami in Indonesia and 2011 tsunami in Fukushima, Japan.
She attributes much of her success to her father, as well as her outstanding mentors. Though she accomplished much, Ms. Swank is most proud of her service as the first female to deploy in a combat zone attached to a S.W.C.C detachment as a combat support technician in the United States Navy in the year of 2014.
