Now retired, Ms. Tiegen enjoyed over 30 years of success in her field, beginning in 1968 as a staff auditor for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Company in Miami, Florida. Over the course of her career, she secured increasingly more prominent roles, briefly working for J.H. Cohn and Company CPAs and Clarence Rainess and Company CPAs before returning to south Florida. Among her most notable positions, Ms. Tiegen led the small business department of accounting at Laventhol & Horwalth in Coral Gables, Florida. She subsequently formed her own practice in 1983 as the principal of Elaine Malin Tiegen CPA PA, where she remained until 2001.
Presently, Ms. Tiegen lends her expertise as the chair of the residential relation council at the Continuing Care Retirement Community-Vi of Aventura. As part of her responsibilities, she presides over meetings of the council, who oversee resident relations, bylaws, finance, building management and other aspects of the community organization. Civically engaged, Ms. Tiegen spent her earlier years representing the Southern Florida Interprofessional Council as its president. She was also active as a member of the advisory council and as the chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's 12th District Small Business Committee.
Ms. Tiegen received a Bachelor of Science in accounting at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1966. She was a certified public accountant in the state of Florida. Among her professional affiliations, she was a member of the American Women's Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Arbitration Association, and is a former chapter president for the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Society of Women Accountants. Additionally, Ms. Tiegen has served in several roles of high leadership within the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Honoring her achievements, Ms. Tiegen was named as the Florida Accountant of the Year in 1976 and was later recognized with a Distinguished Service Award from the Dade County chapter of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants every year between 1980 and 1982.
