Drawing on over five decades of diverse expertise, Mr. Daffern has found much success in public service as a mayor and a municipal judge. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he pursued coursework at Texas Tech University in 1966, before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1968. He is a Vietnam veteran and served on active duty and in the Reserves for more than 20 years. He later also served in the Texas Army National Guard for 10 years for a combined total of over 30 years of service. As a commitment to his field, Mr. Daffern has been active with several industry-related organizations, including life membership in the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, the Marine Corps Association and the National Guard Association of Texas.
Mr. Daffern became a Mason and Shriner in 1982 and has continued to be very active in supporting the Shriners Hospital for Children. He was Potentate of Khiva Shrine in Amarillo, TX in 1991, President of the North America Shrine Drum Corps Association in 1999, Commander of the International Association Legions of Honor (Shriners who are veterans) in 2019. He is also a member of the National Sojourners and Heroes of '76.
Mr. Daffern began his vocation working in the jewelry industry as a jewelry store manager and later as a wholesale diamond salesman to retails stores in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado. He also completed the Diamond and Evaluation Course from the Gemological Institute of America. From 2008 until his retirement in 2020, he built a prolific career as the first mayor for the City of Staples in Texas, while concurrently serving as a municipal judge for the City of Staples between 2010 and 2020. In his career related endeavors, Mr. Daffern was active as the president of the Texas Municipal League from 2019 to 2020, and in the same capacity with the Texas Association of Mayors, Councilmembers and Commissioners in 2016.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Daffern is most proud to have established a government for the City of Staples as the first mayor since its incorporation, and of serving as president of the Texas Municipal League, at which time he was invited to the White House during President Donald Trump's term for the signing of the United States, Mexico and Canada Agreement (USMCA) bill. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, he has contributed to many veteran organizations and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (of which he is a member).
Mr. Daffern attributes much of his success to the experiences that he has garnered at the Marine Corps, and to his parents for instilling in him a strong work ethic while supporting a family of five girls and one boy. Looking toward the future, he aspires to fully enjoy his retirement by traveling as much as possible and living life to the fullest.
