A seasoned lawyer and former judge with decades of expertise to his credit, Dr. Rahman entered the field of law in Bangladesh. He started his career in April 1983 as an Assistant Judge of the Bangladesh Judicial Service and continued as such until 1996. Since January 1989 he had worked as a seasoned Legislative Drafter in the Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of Bangladesh. Over the years, he gained valuable expertise in legislative drafting and education through his work drafting legislation for the Government of Bangladesh and Gibraltar and as a teacher for Athabasca University of Canada. Additionally, he has written a total of seven legal books, including "Muslim Family Laws in Bangladesh," "An Introduction to Muslim and Family Laws," "An Introduction to Marriage Law" and "The Code of Civil Procedure." Now retired after 39 years of professional career, Dr. Rahman parlays his knowledge to others as a legislative drafting consultant.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Rahman earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Dhaka. In the ensuing years, he also received a Master of Laws from his alma mater and completed another Master of Laws in legislative drafting from The University of the West Indies, Barbados. Subsequently he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in legislative drafting from the American University of London through which he published the thesis "Modern Legislative Drafting: A 21st Century Approach." Driven to maintain awareness of developments in the field, he aligns himself with the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsel.
While his career has been filled with standout moments, Dr. Rahman takes the most pride in drafting more than 500 legislative drafts throughout the course of his career. Similarly, he is honored to have worked with the Government of Gibraltar to draft legislation as an international expert and to have been named as a Crown Counsel – Senior Law Draftsman through the government in 2010. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rahman intends to write more books, draft more legislation for other countries as a consultant and enjoy his retirement.
