A talented film filmmaker, writer, producer and director, Mr. Vance presently serves as the president of Singular Entertainment, a production company in Los Angeles. A veteran of the film industry, he has enjoyed working with many gifted artists and award-winning celebrities in the industry, including Shirley Jones, Alex Geringas, and Louis Gossett Jr.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Vance has produced over 30 stage plays and events. Among a myriad of works, his first film was titled "Napa Valley Dreams." The documentary film was directed by him and produced by Singular Entertainment before being distributed globally. Mr. Vance was also the playwright for "Sketches of White" in 1984 and wrote the screenplay for "Miracle at Gate 2013," which premiered as an NBC television movie in 2013. Furthermore, he produced and directed the 2015 short "The Butterfly, The Harp and the Timepiece" and the 2021 documentary, "Shadow Child," which was a project for Restore A Child, a charitable organization that operates orphanages and schools throughout the world. The 30-minute documentary is the biography of the nonprofit's founder Norma Nashed.
Having borne a passion for writing since he was a child, Mr. Vance had his first story published in a national publication called GUIDE Magazine when he was in seventh grade, and won his first national playwriting competition shortly thereafter. Drawing consistent inspiration from his vocation, he believes in the power of healing through storytelling, as well as in connecting viewers from all parts of the world.
As an extension of his work, Mr. Vance is a tenured professor who currently teaches three courses per quarter at La Sierra University in Riverside, California, where he is presently working on several filmmaking projects with his students. In addition to teaching, he is active on several department committees. Previously, he taught as a professor at Pacific Union College in Napa Valley, California, from 2008 to 2012, where he trained film majors and led student productions that have notably won national awards and professional distribution for their contributions. Mr. Vance also garnered recognition as an associate professor and director of theater at Walla Walla University in College Place, Washington, between 1992 and 1995.
Among other professional opportunities, Mr. Vance served as an expert consultant in writing for the U.S. Government Accountability Office, as a judge for the Roy W. Dean Film Grant Judging Committee, and as a classic announcer for WGTS-FM in Washington, D.C., and the NPR member station WAUS-FM in Michigan. He also spent over a decade as a freelance writer and producer and was the head writer for two multi-award-winning television series, ABC's Lifestyle Magazine and Court TV's "The Evidence." Furthermore, Mr. Vance authored his first children's book, "De'Monte Love" via Visikid Books in 2007.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Vance attended Loma Linda University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. He subsequently graduated from The Catholic University of America with a Master of Fine Arts in playwriting and Andrews University with a Master of Arts in religion.
Supporting his career efforts, Mr. Vance is a member of the Writers Guild of America. He was also honored to be named as a life member of American Mensa in 2013. Among numerous career achievements, he received recognition with a Panelists Choice Award at the Edward Albee International Playwrighting Competition and an Award of Merit at the Accolade Global Film Competition. Some of his works were also an Official Selection at the Culver City Film Festival, the ALL LIGHTS India International Film Festival, the Beverly Hills Short Film Festival, and the LA Shorts International Film Festival. In 2016, Mr. Vance was recognized as the Movie Maker of the Year and for having directed the Best Film at the International Movie Awards. Furthermore, he was listed as a qualifier for an Oscar Award in the U.S., a British Academy Film Award in the United Kingdom, an Association of Community College Trustees Award from Canada, and a Goya Award from Spain.
