NELSONVILLE, OH, October 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lucia Grossman has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing on years of experience, Dr. Grossman presently excels as the program manager of environmental science for Hocking College, through which she is responsible for grant writing, managing the school laboratory, and working with bioremediation, edible mushrooms, and pesticides. During the early stages of her career, Dr. Grossman gained valuable expertise in the field as a principal consultant for Biosage Consultants and as a professor of microbiology, biochemistry, and biotechnology for the School of Food Engineering at the University of Campinas in Brazil.
Throughout the course of her career, Dr. Grossman has also served as a visiting scholar with Princeton University. Over the years, she has helped more than 60 graduate and doctoral students graduate, and contributed to more than 200 presentations, publications, and book chapters. She has focused much of her research on microbial biodegradation and biotreatment of organic pollutants in the environment and industrial waste streams, and the production of value-added bio-based chemicals, including biosurfactants.
Outside of her work, Dr. Grossman contributes to her community through the FAO Food Safety Expert. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, she aligns herself with The American Society for Microbiology. Well-qualified, she holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Science in biochemistry from the University of Campinas and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the University of Surrey. Additionally, she completed coursework through the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and the International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer.
Thanks to her outstanding breadth of knowledge, Dr. Grossman has contributed to various projects over the years, including one regarding the optimization and chemical characterization of biosurfactants produced by Bacillus Subtilis in raw glycerol obtained from the Brazilian biodiesel industry.
In light of her professional achievements, she received a grant through the Japan International Cooperation Agency and a Travel Prize through The American Society for Microbiology. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes special pride in the accomplishments of her students. In the coming years, Dr. Grossman intends to build a new laboratory at Hocking College.
