She also spent time in academia as an assistant professor of pathology at the Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, where she most notably pioneered the use of ultrasound in detecting malignant tissue in the breast. Dr. Calderon also served as a military doctor and was a teaching fellow in pathology.

She also frequently provides books and other school supplies to children in the Philippines, has been active with various Catholic missions, and has held concerts to raise funds for children in need.
Dr. Calderon received a Doctor of Medicine before completing a residency in pathology at Georgetown University. Drawing inspiration from the example of her father, a prominent physician, to pursue the medical field, she subsequently became interested in ultrasound studies and her career continually progressed as a result. To remain aware of developments in her area of expertise, Dr. Calderon maintains her affiliation with the College of American Pathologists and the Philippine American Association of Physicians.
