Dr. Holmes also became the director of field experiences and student teaching at her alma mater, Texas Southern University, in 1997.
Dr. Holmes' tenure in education included teaching biology, serving as a staff development specialist, and garnering significant experience as an assistant principal for several different schools throughout the Houston Independent School District. Apart from her full-time commitments, she was a consultant for the Prairie View Teacher Corps. Additionally, Dr. Holmes served as a consultant for the Educational Leadership Institute and the North Forest Independent School District, an advisory council member for the Texas Education Agency, and the vice chair of the Texas Advisory Council for Social Work Certification.
Highly educated, Dr. Holmes is an alumnus of Texas Southern University, was selected as a participant in the Experiment in International Living and where she received a Bachelor of Science in 1965, a Master of Science in 1970 through the National Science Foundation, and a Doctor of Education in 1991. She also completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Houston in 1979, obtaining supervisory and administrative certifications. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Holmes' credit include certification as a mediator in family, civil and adolescent mediation.
Dr. Holmes is a professional member of several relevant organizations, such as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Houston Professional Administrators. She is also a member of Top Ladies of Distinction Inc. Moreover, Dr. Holmes has maintained her affiliation with Phi Delta Kappa and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a public service organization – at the latter organization, she has been active in numerous roles, including serving as the vice president, and president of Suburban Houston Fort Bend Alumnae Chapter.
