An expert in his field, Dr. Hernandez holds a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Texas State University and a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Philosophy in educational administration from the University of Texas at Austin. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he has aligned himself with the Texas Urban Council, the University Interscholastic League Legislative Council, the Texas Association of Schools Administrators' Executive Council, and the Texas School Alliance, where he previously served as the president.
Outside of his work, Dr. Hernandez is a member of the board of the American Heart Association. In light of his professional expertise, he was named as a state finalist for the Texas Superintendent of the Year Award. While his career has been filled with standout moments, he takes the most pride in being a change agent and a turnaround leader for their district.
Due to the successful relationships Dr. Hernandez has formed in the community, the district will have opened 20 brand new campuses in the coming year. Though his hard work has brought him far, he attributes much of his success to his previous experiences and the lessons he has learned. In the coming years, Dr. Hernandez aims to either continue his work as a superintendent or transition into consulting.
