Mark leads BakerHostetler's International Arbitration and Litigation team, which Chambers & Partners Global ranks as Band 1, Highly Regarded, and co-leads the Global Fraud and International Asset Tracing and Recovery team, which has been recognized by Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal. He is a member of esteemed international arbitration panels, including American Arbitration Association, (AAA) International Centre for Disputes Resolution (ICDR) and CPR Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR). In the past four decades, he has had top ten jury verdicts in two and represented the Republic of Peru in $40 billion in international lawsuits in the third.
Mark is an adviser at the American Law Institute, Restatement (Fourth) Foreign Relations Law, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and former chair of the D.C. branch, a former member of the Advisory Board to the President, CPR International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution, and a member of the board of directors and former chair of The Writer's Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field of law as special litigation counsel in the civil division of the United States Department of Justice, where he worked between 1979 and 1983 and as trial counsel between 1972-1977.
Throughout his career, Mr. Cymrot has also authored more than 30 publications, including his book "Squeezing Silver: Peru's Trial against Nelson Bunker Hunt," and articles "The Role of Psychology in International Arbitration, Going First Makes a Difference," and "Going First Makes a Difference: Decision-Making Dynamics in Arbitration."
Mr. Cymrot holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from George Washington University, as well as a JD from Columbia Law School. A trial lawyer arbitrator for more than 50 years, Mr. Cymrot has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, he was honored in Chambers & Partners for international arbitration, Top Attorneys in Washington D.C. via Washingtonian Magazine, Who's Who International Legal Directory for Asset Recovery, The Legal 500, and Who's Who in America.
