As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With years of expertise to his credit in the field of industrial sales and development, Mr. Durand found success in multiple roles at Caterpillar Inc., a Fortune 500 company and manufacturer of construction equipment. In this capacity, he first distinguished himself as an engineer before moving on to a variety of roles, including in technical marketing, manufacturing, human resources, strategic planning and, ultimately, as an ethics executive. He worked with all levels of the company to design and implement processes utilized in the company's ethics process. Throughout the course of his career with Caterpillar, he is most proud to have worked frequently with farmers, and to have learned the efficacy of listening intently to the wisdom of others.
Outside of his work at Caterpillar, Mr. Durand earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Southern University, and an MBA from the University of Illinois. He became a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1965. Initially training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he went on to serve as a member of the Sixth Engineering Battalion in Peoria, Illinois, and became involved in local community affairs as a round table commissioner for the Arrow District of the Boy Scouts of America, where he encouraged teenagers to consider a career in the military.
For his performance as a marine, Mr. Durand was recognized as the Outstanding Marine of the Year at Parris Island and received a Dress Blues Award from Leatherneck Magazine. Most impressively, he also earned the Charles L. Dancey Reserve Marine of the Year Award, which honors the accomplishments of an enlisted marine who has upheld the finest traditions of readiness, training and service, as exemplified by Colonel Charles Dancey, who served during the Korean War.
Now retired, Mr. Durand has worked as a strategic planning consultant on behalf of several clients, including the Urban League of Nebraska, as well as various charitable organizations and individuals. Additionally, he has availed himself of the peace and quiet he has been afforded in retirement to pursue a life of quiet farming in northern Louisiana. Looking back on his accomplishments, he is proud to have always served as part of a cause greater than himself, and to have helped others achieve their own measure of prosperity.
