Among her responsibilities at the hospital, she also distinguished herself as the director of hematopathology, and previously served in several pathology roles at a variety of facilities throughout the United States and abroad, including at King's Daughters Hospital, the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Big Spring, Texas, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Temple, Texas, and at Al Fanateer Hospital in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
Adjacent to her main responsibilities in the field, Dr. El-Sissy maintained involvement as an instructor of pathology at Texas A&M University. Further dedicated to disseminating her knowledge to the field at large, she has also written numerous articles, some of which have appeared in such publications as the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. Likewise, Dr. El-Sissy presented and spoke on the subject of interactions between Hodgkin's lymphoma and Castleman disease at a Dallas-based conference before the Texas Society of Pathologists.
Well-regarded for her manifold contributions to the field, Dr. El-Sissy has received numerous accolades across the span of her career. Among them, she was lauded as the first-place winner of a poster presentation by the American Society for Clinical Pathology in 1995, as well as via the Texas Society of Pathologists during the same year. She was also acclaimed for placing third in a poster presentation on the subject of utilizing polymerase chain reaction techniques to diagnose a patient's low-grade lymphoma.
Before venturing onto her vocational path, Dr. El-Sissy sought a formal education at the Tanta University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt, from which she earned a Doctor of Medicine, with high honors, in 1972. She later undertook a residency in internal medicine and cardiology at the same institution. Following this period, she interned at the Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium from 1979 until 1980, attended a residency at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was accepted to a residency and two fellowships in her areas of expertise at the Texas A&M College of Medicine-Scott and White Medical Center from 1980 until 1995.
Though her professional journey has been filled with many memorable moments, Dr. El-Sissy is most proud to have cultivated her skills through sharp eyesight and an ability to diagnose diseases based on a patient's pathology and hematopathology profile.
