After working as president of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute from 1990 until 2001, Dr. Moore-Elgin retired from the field. An expert in her field, Dr. Moore-Elgin earned an undergraduate and graduate degree before earning an EdD from the University of New Mexico. Due to her vast breadth of experience and knowledge, she has been honored many times, earning the American Indian Science and Engineering Award and an Outstanding Women in Business Award through the local women in business organization. Likewise, in 2001, Dr. Moore-Elgin won the Ely S. Parker Award for her dedication to Native American education.
Though hard work, dedication, and drive to help the Native American community brought her far in her career, Dr. Moore-Elgin attributes her success to her self-discipline, tenacity, and her determination to achieve her goals. Within the coming years, Dr. Moore-Elgin aims to continue dedicating her time and energy to Native American education through her charitable endeavors.
