Leveraging more than two decades of excellence to her credit in neurology, Dr. Kataki has earned distinction as a top educator in her field. In this capacity, she is an associate professor of neurology with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Since 2004, she has focused her efforts on seeing patients for consultations while teaching medical students, neurology residents, geriatric cognitive neurology and neurobehavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry fellows. She is currently involved in 38 clinical research projects either as a Principal Investigator or Co-investigator, specializing in diagnosis, pharmacological and behavioral management in neurodegenerative conditions, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Additionally, she is a valued member of the American Academy of Neurology, a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Among her professional accomplishments, Dr. Kataki was elected as a fellow to the American Academy of Neurology in 2019 and as America's Best Physician in 2016 and 2017. She was honored with awards from the International Association of Healthcare Professionals Leading Physicians of the World in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Additionally, she received a Neuroscience Excellence Award at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2012 and was selected to direct the breakfast seminar at the American Academy of Neurology in 2016.
Dr. Kataki graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1989, and completed a neurology residency with the University of Athens, Greece, an elective at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, and a PhD with the University of Athens, dissertation title: "Contributions of SPECT in the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease." (2003). After she completed her first residency, she then immigrated to the United States and pursued a research fellowship with Functional Neurosurgery, University of Texas, Health Science Center, Houston, and subsequently a fellowship in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia in 1999 with Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, followed by Neurology Residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2003, fellowship in Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia and fellowship in Neurobehavioral Neurology with Baylor College of Medicine and the Houston VAMC Cognitive Disorders Center, Houston TX.
Within the coming years, Dr. Kataki plans to continue seeing patients for consultations, academic teaching and clinical research, aiming to contribute to new treatments in neurology and develop new projects. Accounting for her success, she credits her love for her profession, still remaining as passionate about serving her triple academic mission as she was when starting her career.
