Mr. Bain served as an attorney and the managing partner of his firm Emalfarb, Swan & Bain for 36 years until it closed operations in November 2022. Over the course of his career, he has especially enjoyed working with independent local counsel nationwide. Ever committed to his profession, Mr. Bain is a member of the American Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and The Chicago Bar Association.
During his time in the field, Mr. Bain traveled to China to provide seminars to Chinese and U.S. lawyers regarding U.S. construction law, both in Shanghai and Beijing. This opportunity led him to create a curriculum based on his seminars, which later became an eligible continuing education course. He managed not only his firm but also the operations of his firm's nationwide network of independent attorneys practicing in the construction and commercial sectors.
As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Bain cultivated a higher education, originally earning a Bachelor of Science in communications and journalism, with honors, from the University of Illinois (Urbana) in 1971. He subsequently attended the Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Bain has been admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois and by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Further accounting for his achievements, Mr. Bain is notably proud of his track record for aiding military service members upgrade their discharge. Likewise, he is proud to have created the Legal*Shops located in Montgomery Ward stores, where they provided crucial aid to middle-class clients.
In light of his accomplished career, Mr. Bain has maintained his AV-rated status through Martindale-Hubbell. Throughout his tenure, he has followed his guiding principles: "Just keep doing what you know will help and never shy away from getting additional help from others.
