With more than four decades of excellence to his credit in engineering, Mr. Paavola found success as a part of the Corps of Engineers. During his 30-year tenure, he focused his efforts on leading the structural engineering department in the chief of engineers' office. He and his team would review civil and military works to assess whether changes would need to be made while sponsoring a variety of research on how to correct designs. Additionally, he was a member of the American Association of Dams.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Paavola earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1962 and a Master of Science in structural engineering in 1963, both from Oregon State University. He was able to achieve a great deal of success in his profession due to his deep knowledge and his loyal work for the Corps of Engineers.
Now than he is retired, Mr. Paavola spends his time with his family, including his three daughters, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Having retired in 1989, he is now 88 years old and plans to continue enjoying his family.
