LONG BEACH, CA, January 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph Edwin Carpenter has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Carpenter is a retired engineering scientist who joined the Long Beach Unified School District as an engineering instructor in 1992 after a distinguished tenure at Northrop Grumman. Originally agreeing to teach on a part-time basis for one semester as part of an experiment by the California State University system, the purpose of the program was to encourage more high school students to pursue engineering after graduation.
Quickly becoming inspired by his students, Mr. Carpenter ultimately decided to remain in the classroom and leave his industry years behind him. Utilizing his years of expertise, he notably modified a Project Lead the Way capstone engineering course and created Engineering Design and Development – The CARPA Initiative. Presently, Mr. Carpenter teaches 9th-grade and 12th-grade students a course in design. As part of the course, each student must form a corporate identity and interview for job positions within that corporation. He also assigns them individual projects that must be completed by the end of the school year that includes producing both a product and a function.
Mr. Carpenter spent more than three decades as an engineering scientist/senior design engineer at TRW Inc./Northrop Grumman between 1980 and 2014. During his years in the field, Mr. Carpenter did a lot of work at TRW for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which is an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense that is accountable for the development of technologies for use by the U.S. military. TRW was notably an advanced-technology products and services company that specialized in the aerospace, information systems, and automotive markets that was acquired by Northrop Grumman in December 2002.
Mr. Carpenter graduated from California State University in Long Beach with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology in 1980. Looking toward the future, Mr. Carpenter aims to write a book to document his legacy.
