A desire to contribute to the sustained conversation surrounding the advancement of the sport has led George L. Frye to research and write.
KIAWAH ISLAND, SC, February 07, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George L. Frye has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A specialist in turf management, Mr. Frye is currently the owner and acting president and chief executive officer of TransGOLF Inc. where since 2001, he has worked in support of golf course superintendents, owners and architects to manage transitional phases inherent to course management. He also provides expert recommendations about environmentally safe turf products and proudly collaborates across platforms related to maintenance, product sales and research and development. Ultimately, Mr. Frye is a trusted consultant who relishes the opportunity to contribute to and elevate the sport of golf.
Mr. Frye followed a childhood passion for the sport of golf into his profession, and he brings exceptional training and academic credentials to the field. For example, he earned an Associate of Arts in Turfgrass Management from North Carolina State University. In 1981, he accepted an appointment as the director of golf maintenance at the Club at Seabrook Island where he worked with Robert Trent Jones to build Crooked Oaks. In 1983, he moved on to become the head golf course superintendent at Oak Hills Country Club (Host of the Texas Open) where he worked with Jay Morrish in the renovation of this old Tillinghast golf course, where he remained until 1985. His role at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort as the director of golf maintenance was lengthy, lasting from 1985 until 2001 where he orchestrated the construction of Osprey Point (Tom Fazio Design) and worked with Pete Dye on the construction and development of The Ocean Course. His most noted accomplishment at Kiawah Island was hosting the 1991 Ryder Cup (War by the Shore) on The Ocean Course during his tenure at Kiawah. He has lectured nationally and regionally on many topics of golf course maintenance – especially on the management of Ultra dwarf Bermudas and water quality.
A desire to contribute to the sustained conversation surrounding the advancement of the sport has led Mr. Frye to research and write. In 2022, he authored "What Makes a Good Golf Course Superintendent?" and he co-authored a book on wastewater management as well. He is also committed to promoting the notion that golf courses and nature can co-exist, so he seeks opportunities to share his expertise across a broad range of events and venues; moreover, he aims to persist in mentoring those who are poised to enter the industry, so he maintains networking opportunities through memberships in the Golf Course Superintendents of America and the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association.
