WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ, March 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harold "Hal" W. Barbour has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After leading a long and successful career in electronic engineering, sales, and marketing Mr. Barbour took on the role of President of CAST Inc. in 1993. In 2014, Mr. Barbour stepped down from his role as President of CAST Inc. and has since been serving as CAST Inc. Chairperson.
Founded in 1993, CAST, Inc. specializes in high-quality semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) used in chip design and providing industry-leading technical support to its customers. In addition to developing its own IP, CAST also partners with a long-standing network of IP developers from across the globe. It also relies on a multitude of sales consultants throughout Asia.
CAST is a financially conservative company. From the very beginning it was "bootstrapped" and is entirely internally held and, in 30 years of business, has never taken a loan. As a testament to the integrity of the business, nearly one-half of CAST Inc.'s sales are generated from repeat customers but not a single customer represents as much as 5% of its annual revenue. On top of developing strong relationships with clients and other partners in the industry, Mr. Barbour and the entire CAST Inc. team leverage their expertise to maintain its brand, while also ensuring that new product development is consistent with their core capabilities.
Mr. Barbour graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Following his graduation, Mr. Barbour began his career as a hardware design engineer and after 5 years in design, accepted a position as Sales Engineer with one of the earliest pioneers in electrical test equipment, General Radio, Inc. At the time of his joining GR, the company was pioneering in an entirely new market of automated test systems for the testing of printed circuit boards and that new business transformed the company. In its first 5 years, the company attained the #1 market position in Board Test and, in preparation for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), changed its name and became a public company under the name Genrad. Following the IPO, Hal became head of Marketing of the Board Test Division and, after 15 years with the company, joined Intergraph in Huntsville, AL as Director of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Marketing. He subsequently joined HHB Systems in New Jersey as Vice President of Marketing. HHB which lead to a successful IPO and the company and was later acquired by Racal Redac. Hal then became the Vice President of Business Development at Racal-Redac. The business was later sold to Zuken, and Zuken subsequently closed the NJ operations, leading to the departure of most of the NJ team. At that point a small number of Hal's colleagues formed CAST to concentrate on IP and Hal formed Lineage Systems to concentrate on design management systems.
From the very beginning both companies worked closely together, all having been friends from their time at HHB/Redac. After struggling in the early years, it was decided to merge CAST and Lineage under the name CAST Inc. which allowed the company to capitalize on CAST's engineering skills and Hal's managerial skills. From the outset, the company decided to control its own destiny by avoiding outside investment giving its highest priority to supporting its customers and to meeting its financial obligations to its partners. The early years were difficult but as time wore on and the business grew, CAST moved from a virtual unknown to a recognized senior member today's digital semiconductor IP market.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Barbour anticipates continued growth of the industry. Mr. Barbour attributes his personal success to a mixture of a love of engineering, a belief in complementary nature of the CAST team, a mixture of good luck and intuition and a wonderful wife whose world class executive coaching expertise has been invaluable in helping him avoid pitfalls that can easily derail a career. These attributes have led to CAST's unusual success in organizing a world-class global supplier of leading-edge SIP products and a commitment to customer success that is unrivaled in the world of SIP.
