NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ, March 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bruce G. Haffty, MD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on over three decades of expertise in the field of medicine, Dr. Haffty specializes in radiation oncology, as well as breast, neck and head cancers. Since 2005, he has found much success at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, where he served in a variety of roles, including an interim director, the chief of staff and, most recently, as an associate vice chancellor of the cancer programs. Prior to this role, Dr. Haffty was active as the vice chairman and a clinical director at the Yale University School of Medicine from 2002 to 2005.
Dr. Haffty initially began his vocation working as a faculty member at the Yale University School of Medicine from 1988 until 2005, while concurrently serving as their professor of therapeutic radiology and a residency director between 1992 and 2004. Adjacent to his main responsibilities in the field, he has been active as a system director of radiation oncology at the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health Facility. In his career related endeavors, Dr. Haffty has authored and co-authored more than 50 books and 400 peer-reviewed publications, in addition to multiple book chapters and editorials, while contributing as an editor of the "Handbook of Radiation Oncology" and a deputy editor of the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Haffty pursued an education at the University of Massachusetts, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1972. He continued his academic efforts at the Yale University School of Medicine, where he obtained a Doctor of Medicine in 1984, followed by an internship and residency training in radiation oncology. As a commitment to his field, he has been active with several professional organizations, including the American Radium Society, the American Board of Radiology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology and the Radiological Society of North America, all of which he served as president.
Well regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. Haffty has been honored by the European Society of Radiology in 2023 and the American Cancer Society Inc. of New Jersey in 2021. He has also received multiple awards, including the Leadership in Patient Care Award from the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in 2008, the Norman H. Edelman Clinical Science Mentoring Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2009 and the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award from the Radiological Society of North America, to only name a few.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Haffty is most proud of his leadership of the various radiation oncology societies. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to his perseverance and consistency. Looking toward the future, Dr. Haffty aspires to continue publishing fundamental clinical trial and research findings to further advance the field of radiation oncology.
