Ms. Kruzhilina has extensively collaborated with innovative companies such as En Garde Arts, Disney and Mabou Mines, and visionary artists such as Lars Jan, Dmitry Krymov, and Doug Fitch. She aligns herself with creative institutions such as the Target Margin Theatre Institute, the International Theatre Institute, Theatre Communications Group, and the League of Professional Theatre Women. An expert in her field, she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from the Moscow State Textile Institute and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Design from the California Institute of the Arts. Ms. Kruzhilina has continuously expanded her expertise through diverse training programs including the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts, La MaMa Umbria International Symposium for Directors, DAH International Theatre School, and Odyssey Works.
Throughout her career, Ms. Kruzhilina's work has been showcased at various prestigious venues across the globe, including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the New York Philharmonic, the National Theatre in Prague, Tokyo Disneyland, Barbican Centre and Times Square. In recent years Ms. Kruzhilina has focused on creating site-specific work that explores novel approaches to performance form and process, outside of traditional theater spaces. Her site-specific performance "A Dozen Dreams," performed at Brookfield Place in New York and co-created with Anne Hamburger (En Garde Arts) and John Eisner, was chosen to represent the U.S. in the 2023 edition of the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, the world's largest competitive scenography presentation event held every four years.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Kruzhilina takes great pride in being a faculty member of the New School University where she made an instrumental contribution to the development of the interdisciplinary MFA program in Contemporary Theatre and Performance, the only one of its kind in the U.S. She is also honored to have established the performance organization Visual Echo, which aims to fight polarization by facilitating communication between people of different backgrounds. Within the coming years, Ms. Kruzhilina aims to further create original site-based performances, expand upon her work with Visual Echo, continue conducting international workshops, and establish her own educational program.
