These studies are dedicated to developing new therapeutic interventions that will improve the outcomes of various types of cancer. Dr. Onaku monitors these trials to ensure the rights and well-being of enrolled participants are protected and that clinical trial activities are conducted in accordance with the protocol as well as other regulatory requirements, while collaborating with the clinical research, data management and the clinical operations teams to guarantee proper execution of projects. In addition, she develops data handling guidelines to preserve the integrity of the clinical trial data and mentors clinical research associates.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Onaku began her career as a house officer for the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in 2012 and was a physician for Julius Berger Nigeria PLC in 2013. She then served as a physician for Cedarcrest Hospitals in 2014 and became a Quantitative methods for public health tutor and Graduate teaching assistant at Boston University in 2019. Simultaneously, she served as a research assistant at the department of epidemiology in the Boston University School of Public Health until becoming a senior clinical data manager for Comprehensive Research Solutions, LLC in 2020.
Consequently, Dr. Onaku lends her expertise as a valued member of the American Public Health Association, the Society of Clinical Research Associates, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society for Epidemiologic Research, and the European Association for Cancer Research. Among her professional accomplishments, she is proud to have received a Meritorious Service Award from Cedarcrest Hospitals and a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Contribution from the International Student Organization at Boston University.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Onaku earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Ebonyi State University in Nigeria. She then attained a Master of Public Health from Boston University in 2020. Well-qualified in her field, she completed numerous CITI certification programs, including HIPAA and Research Data Security, Medical Campus and Biomedical Research, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Biomedical 101.
Within the coming years, Dr. Onaku intends to develop her skills as an independent investigator who will lead the development of novel interventions. Her research project ideas would aid in the prevention and control of various cancers, including improving outcomes across patient populations, particularly for cancers that affect women's health. She was inspired to join the field after witnessing the health disparity in the small town where she grew up and having her own mother struggle with and eventually succumb to endometrial cancer.
