A leader in her field, Ms. Quinn is the recipient of the American Traffic Safety Service Association's (ATSSA) 2021 National Safety Award
ROANOKE, VA, March 14, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ginger Fay Quinn has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An expert in roadway safety, Ms. Quinn serves as road design standard engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The position is the culmination of four decades of experience in her field, beginning directly out of high school when she worked as a flagger, sign fabricator and highway maintenance worker on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This job set Ms. Quinn on a career path that saw her holding progressively senior positions as a VDOT work zone traffic control coordinator, assistant state work zone safety coordinator and road design engineer. In the process, she has gained expertise in designing and reviewing temporary traffic control plans, developing safety improvement projects, reviewing and assessing work zones, teaching work zone traffic control and producing training materials, most notably the American Traffic Safety Service Association's (ATSSA) Flagger Training Video used nationwide. In addition to her successful work with VDOT, Ms. Quinn also has worked with researchers at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute and the Virginia Transportation Council — a partnership between VDOT and the University of Virginia — to design, implement and evaluate work zone safety products.
A leader in her field, Ms. Quinn is the recipient of the American Traffic Safety Service Association's (ATSSA) 2021 National Safety Award, which recognizes an employee or recent retiree of a government agency for making a significant contribution to our nation's roadways. On the state level, she was also honored with a 1994 Virginia Department of Transportation Commission Award of Excellence. She has been a member of the Virginia ATSSA Chapter since its inception, serving on subcommittees and playing a key role in developing policies used throughout the state. She holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from National College.
Ms. Quinn takes great pride in her work; she is especially motivated that her talents enable her to save lives by making temporary traffic control plans safer for all road users. Notably, policies and procedures that she developed have become National Standards in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Part 6 – Temporary Traffic Control). She is grateful to her excellent managers and mentors — including Martha Kapitanov, Vanna Lewis, Melisa Finley and David Rush — for motivating her to succeed and improve throughout her career.
In addition to her professional pursuits, Ms. Quinn teaches swim lessons and Silver Sneaker® fitness classes. She is an Atma Buti® Sound Healer Practitioner. She is active in her church, missions work and volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House in Southwest Virginia and Straight Street. She has a son.
