Dr. Salinero will focus on new ways for training the next generation of scientists, allowing science to reimagine itself to provide the kind of science with which the world yearns to engage.
TEMPE, AZ, March 28, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kennan Kellaris Salinero has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than three decades of research experience in biochemistry, genomics and cell biology as a path to considering structural issues in how science 'gets done,' Dr. Salinero has earned distinction as the principal founder of the non-profit organization Yámana Science and Technology, established in 2008, where Kennan served as president of the board from 2008 to 2014. In 2014, the organization changed its name to ReImagine Science, with Dr. Salinero as Executive Director. ReImagine Science focuses on the whole system of science – how science interacts with society, how scientists are trained, how funding is obtained, and how scientists might best collaborate for effective team work. ReImagine Science recognizes that the rising generations of new scientists have the most at stake, and how science treats its youngest career researchers is strongly connected with how science is able to listen to the needs of society and the planet.
Dr. Salinero is a founding member of the Science of Team Science and has served on the board of the Innovation Tri Valley Leadership Group and the East Bay Economic Development Alliance. She has been an expert mentor for the UC Entrepreneurship Academy, the National Veterinary Entrepreneurship Academy and the National Innovators Forum, Stanford's MediaX Lab Leadership Bootcamp, as well as a review panelist for the National Science Foundation. She combined her work with MIT's u.lab and the Presencing Institute in her presentation "Science in an Age of Heresy," a discovery session hosted at TED Summit in Edinburgh, Scotland. She has also curated and produced a number of TEDx events.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Salinero began her career as a STEP employee with the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1979 and was a research technician for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1980. After completing a PhD and post-doctoral studies in biochemistry, she continued her career as a faculty member for the Georgetown University department of chemistry in 1993. Her role as a scientific specialist with Celera Genomics occurred during the sequencing of the human genome. She served as a guest scientist with the Joint Genome Institute from 2003 until 2005, and during this time, was also a research associate with the University of California, Berkeley. She has also been a visiting researcher with Åbo Akademi University in 2013. Among her professional accomplishments, she is proud to have received a Spot Award from the Celera/PE Corporation, but is most proud of her children Cassandra and Nicholas, whom she holds as her greatest accomplishment.
Kennan graduated from high school in Portales, NM shortly after turning sixteen, and received her BS degree in Chemistry, Summa cum Laude, at the age of eighteen. She then attained a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego in 1988 and was a post-doctoral fellow in cell biology with the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School from 1988 until 1993.
Within the coming years, Dr. Salinero will focus on new ways for training the next generation of scientists, allowing science to reimagine itself to provide the kind of science with which the world yearns to engage.
