MADISON, WI, April 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nikhil Pokharel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing on years of professional experience, Dr. Pokharel presently serves as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he conducts research into fabrication of III-V semiconductors using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technique, and their structural and optical characterization using electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and photoluminescence spectroscopy, for development of , quantum dot lasers. Prior to joining the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Pokharel worked as a graduate research assistant for the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, where he studied the same type of semiconducting materials for application in solar cells and LEDs.
During the early stages of his career, Dr. Pokharel gained valuable expertise in education at Tribhuvan University, Tallinn University of Technology and Kathmandu University. Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Engineering in Nepal. Subsequently, Dr. Pokharel received a Master of Science in engineering in materials and processes for sustainable energetics from the Tallinn University of Technology and a PhD in nanoscience and engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
In light of his professional achievements, Dr. Pokharel received the best poster award during the Nanoscience and Engineering Expo at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 2019. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in his academic journey to Europe and subsequently to the United States, completing all of his degrees through scholarships. During his PhD he contributed to epitaxial integration of aluminum on III-V semiconductors, which is crucial for bringing down the cost of III-V photovoltaic technology. By using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), he further studied structural properties of integrated aluminum, and successfully explained the non-conventional crystallographic orientation of aluminum on III-V materials which was not well understood. The cornerstone of his success lay in his dedication to his research. Within the coming years, Dr. Pokharel intends to continue dedicating himself to the study of III-V semiconductors, for the development of solar cells, LEDs and diode lasers.
