Following the completion of law school, Mr. Cherry began his career as an assistant deputy public defender for the State of New Jersey Office of The Public Defender (NJOPD) in 2019. Having become recognized for his professionalism and devotion to serving the public, Mr. Cherry is assigned to represent people that would otherwise be unable to afford to hire an attorney to defend themselves in court.
Notably, the NJOPD is headquartered in the City of Trenton, New Jersey, at the Hughes Justice Complex. As an employee of the state government, Mr. Cherry is tasked with representing juveniles through adults facing criminal offenses in New Jersey state courts. Working diligently to ensure that his clients receive the best representation possible, most of Mr. Cherry's cases involve defendants being charged with a crime and facing at least a one-year prison sentence. Many of them also involve a trial.

Relying on his core values, he strives to always be kind, honest, and respectful, while giving back to those that need it the most. Among a myriad of accomplishments since becoming a public defender, Mr. Cherry's most memorable case was getting an innocent client acquitted from a 10-year prison sentence.
Attributing much of his success to the values instilled in him by his mother, Mr. Cherry aspires to eventually transition into private practice so that he can continue doing good work for as long as possible. He credits his approach to the practice of law to one of his mentors, Vernon McGowen, Jr. In his spare time, Mr. Cherry coaches his 11-year-old daughter's basketball team.
Upon receiving an undergraduate degree at Grambling State University, Mr. Cherry was accepted to Howard University where he subsequently earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence. During his years of study, Mr. Cherry was recognized as a Clinic Student of the Year.
To further place himself at the forefront of the industry, Mr. Cherry is active as a professional member of the New Jersey Bar Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
