Leveraging more than three decades of professional excellence, Ms. Kinkade has earned distinction as the executive director of the non-profit organization American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association (ARCSA), which emphasizes the importance of using rainwater for preserving the world's water supplies. Since 2012, she has focused her efforts on overseeing the operation of the association, including the foundation. ARCSA has rainwater harvesting training programs and instructors who train people looking to gain rainwater harvesting personnel certifications for designers, installers, and inspectors. Additionally, she has served as the president of Forgotten Rain LLC since 2002 and has been the president of Kinkade Gourds since 2009.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Kinkade began her career as a Landscape Architect and land planner with HOH Associates, Inc. in 1984 and then with Drake and Associates in 1986. Following this time, she served as a land planner, landscape designer and project manager for HNTB in 1988 and was a planner and project manager for EDAW, Inc. in 1989. She subsequently functioned as a land planner and Landscape Architect for B&R Engineering, Inc. in 1991 and for LVA Urban Design Studio, LLC in 1995, taking a role as a site development director and partner with PresnellWestar/Qk4 in 1998.
Ms. Kinkade continued her career as the director of planning and landscape architecture for CMX LLC in 2002 and became a planning studio leader with Carter and Burgess, Inc. in 2003. After this period, she served as the Arizona director of planning with ARCADIS G&M, Inc. in 2005 and as a manager in the state and local tax practice with Ernst & Young LLP in 2008. In 2011, she served as an associate professor for the environmental science class for the University of Phoenix and as an adjunct professor for the master of landscape architecture class for Arizona State University until 2013. Additionally, she was the owner of Pony Express Distributors LLC, and served as the exclusive distributor of the Greater Yellowstone Edition of Today's Senior Magazine in 2017 for a year.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Kinkade has contributed a wealth of research to the field, including authoring "Forgotten Rain: Rediscovering Rainwater Harvesting" in 2004 and "Design for Water: Rainwater Harvesting, Stormwater Catchment, and Alternate Water Reuse," which was published in English and Chinese in 2007. Her work was also featured in Working Pressure Magazine in 2022. She started a training program as president of the ARCSA based on the LEED green building accreditation program, which later became a third-party certification program. She also helped to write the organization's training manual.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Kinkade was admitted as a Fellow to the American Society of Landscape Architects (FASLA) in 2020 and received several book awards for her written works. She is also proud to have been honored with a Book Award from the Arizona chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2005 and received a National ASLA Communication Award in 2006. She also was given a Lifetime Achievement Award from the ARCSA in 2013.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Kinkade earned a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Arizona in 1984. Following this achievement, she attained a master's degree in environmental planning in 1994 and completed all classwork for a Doctor of Philosophy in geography from Arizona State University in 2009. Well-qualified in her field, she has been an ARCSA-accredited and LEED-accredited professional with a two-year certificate in sustainable technology and management.
Within the coming years, Ms. Kinkade intends to continue leading the ARCSA so the organization can grow to its full potential. Part of this goal is to expand and collaborate with other associations while bringing it to a pinnacle so that it'll be able to continue on its own and will have a legacy of its own. She ultimately plans to cultivate it to the point it becomes an accrediting association that will have several national standards and be the world's leading association for rainwater catchment. Her next goal will be to complete an international Doctor of Philosophy in climate change and sustainability leading to a third book on world water reuse.
