During the early stages of her career, Ms. Hobgood gained valuable expertise as a marine spatial analyst and data manager for Consolidated Safety Services, through which she collected and organized data for the Ocean Veritas research vessel and conducted quality assessments of all off-shore data, during the Deep Water Horizon oil spill. Additionally, she worked in similar positions with the Conservation Council of North Carolina, Dynamac Corporation, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. An expert in her field, Ms. Hobgood holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Master's degree in geographic information systems and geospatial analysis and a Master of Environmental Management in ecosystem science and conservation from Duke University.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Hobgood is most proud of developing a geographic information system model utilizing different factors, including temperature, salinity depth, wind, currents, weather, and more. The cornerstone of her success lay in her passion for what she does and her adviser, Dr. Patrick Halpin, of Duke University, who encouraged her graduate studies in geospatial applications.
