After more than a decade as a museum curator at The Presidential Museum (now Presidential Archives and Leadership Library) in Odessa, Texas, Mr. Hewitt started a new career as a government employee. Hired by the U.S. Postal Service, he served as a rural carrier associate from 2005 to 2013. Mr. Hewitt has since been promoted to a rural carrier, serving approximately 700 customers daily.
During Mr. Hewitt's tenure at the museum between 1992 and 2005, he curated and garnered expertise in authoring exhibit texts. Recognized as a nonprofit organization, it is notably located on the campus of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
While in high school, Mr. Hewitt was encouraged to pursue music by his parents, who were musicians, and ultimately learned how to play the piano, violin, French horn, organ, handbells, and guitar. He also played on the Mead High School Band in Spokane, Washington, receiving the John Philip Sousa Band Award in 1982. Moreover, he had the opportunity to serve as a member of the All-State High School Band. Mr. Hewitt continues to compose chamber music all these years later and has been an arranger of small ensemble music since 1992. He also spent more than 10 years as a member of the French horn section of the Odessa College Concert Band from 1992 to 2004.
As a devout Christian, Mr. Hewitt has been the director of stewardship at the Redeemer Lutheran Church since 2022 after more than 10 years as the director of church properties from 2010 to 2022. He has also been a substitute organist since 2006 and was active as the youth counselor and director of the handbell choir and the brass ensemble. Outside the church, Mr. Hewitt remains a member, former treasurer, and vice president of the Aid Association for Lutherans.
Mr. Hewitt earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and anthropology from the Pacific Lutheran University in 1986. While pursuing his degree, the university honored him with the Don Jerke Leadership Award. Mr. Hewitt also received certification from the Winedale Museum Seminar in 2000.
