Ms. Turner is distinguished for nearly 30 years of dedication to the nursing profession. As a lung, colorectal and tobacco cessation nurse navigator at Bayhealth Medical Center, she possesses extensive expertise in oncology screening, prevention, community outreach and tobacco cessation coaching. Since stepping into the role in 2018, she has excelled at patient education and enjoys collaborating with the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services to provide uninsured and underinsured patients with free and low-cost health screenings. Ms. Turner is also a Delaware Tobacco Cessation Face-to-Face Coach with the Delaware Quit Line.
Adjacent to her work with Bayhealth Medical Center, Ms. Turner is an adjunct professor with Delaware State University. Previously, she was a nursing supervisor and radiology registered nurse at Bayhealth, a registered nurse and a licensed practical nurse at Crozer Chester Medical Center, a registered nurse operating room circulator at Wills Eye Surgery Center, and a licensed practical nurse at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Ms. Turner's performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She obtained her licensed practical nurse certification from Chester Upland Practical Nursing School in 1994 and later earned an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Delaware County Community College in 2004. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from Wilmington University in 2014 and 2016, respectively. She has also obtained several certifications, including Certified Nurse Educator (Novice) CNEn, Oncology Nurse Navigator-Certified Generalist, and AONN+ Progressive Care Nursing (Adult) (PCCN). Ms. Turner will obtain her Doctorate in Nursing Leadership with a minor in Educational Leadership from Chamberlain University in October.
Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Turner has been recognized with a 2022 Rising Above Team Member Spotlight and a Black History Month Highlight. She was granted a Member of the Year Award from Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., an Above and Beyond Award, and a Winner of the Finer Womanhood Award from the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Rho Zeta Chapter. Additional honors have included a Daisy Foundation Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses, Delaware Today Magazine Top Nurse Nominee in 2020, 2021 and 2023, Bayhealth Medical Center Outpatient and Ambulatory Care Award Nominee, Daisy Award Nominee in 2021, and Aliene Carrington Ewell Member of the Year Award. Among her career accomplishments, she is especially proud of developing the Lung and Colorectal Screening Program at Bayhealth Medical Center.
As a commitment to her field, Ms. Turner has been active with several industry-related organizations. These include the Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, National Black Nurses Association, Inc., American Lung Association, Impact Tobacco Prevention Coalition, The Dover (DE) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Delaware Nurses Association, Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders, Oncology Nursing Society, Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators, and National Association of Parliamentarians. She is also a board member of the Delaware Prostate Cancer Coalition.
Outside of work, Ms. Turner enjoys travel, volunteering, shopping, reading, crocheting and trying new things. She is married with two sons, one daughter and two grandchildren. In the coming year, she is excited to complete her doctorate at Chamberlain University, then plans to earn a life coaching certification and start a business.
