Mr. VandeMotter is a senior electrical engineer at SpaanTech in Chicago, a premier global and award-winning engineering and construction management firm founded over 25 years ago. In his position, he is responsible for designing electrical systems for buildings and highways. Recruited from Gandhi & Associates Inc. in the Norwood Park section of Chicago, Mr. VandeMotter held the same title from 2012 to 2019. During his tenure, he became proficient in a multitude of public projects, including toll plazas, tunnel lighting, the electrical design for bus terminals, IDOT lighting projects, and Chicago streetlighting.
Apart from his success in public projects, Mr. VandeMotter has garnered expertise with several significant industrial projects, including a pipe mill that had to be fast-tracked. He also completed several punch presses for use in General Motors facilities.
Leading the industry since 1985, Mr. Vandemotter began his career as an electrical engineer at Hitachi-Zosom Clearing in Chicago. Over the next few decades, he worked with several leading firms, including Sterling Engineering, Raymond Consulting, BLM Engineers Inc., Ambitech Engineering Corp, and ProBuilt Professional Lighting.
Apart from his primary career goals, Mr. VandeMotter taught cycling classes at the Libertyville Tennis and Fitness Club from 2003 to 2010. He also taught at several other local clubs.
To prepare for his career, Mr. VandeMotter studied at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in electrical engineering in 1977. Once licensed in 20 U.S. states, he currently maintains licensure in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Virginia.
Mr. VandeMotter has been active as a member of several industry-related organizations in support of his career, including as a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and as a consulting electrical engineer and member of the Chicago Electrical Association. Moreover, Mr. VandeMotter is a member and former chair of the Chicago Industry Application Society.
