With nearly three decades of excellence in antitrust, intellectual property, insurance, and securities litigation, Mr. McKenna has earned distinction as the creator of The McKenna Project. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on authoring and speaking on his experiences in the United States Navy and thereafter.
Lt. McKenna served honorably in the United States Navy from 1985 until 1994. In recognition of his dedicated service, he received Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, an Armed Forces Expedition Area Medal and a Southwest Asia Service Medal. Added to these, he was honored with a National Defense Service Medal, a Navy Unit Commendation Medal for Operations Desert Shield and a Navy Commendation Medal. Based on his experiences as a naval officer and carrier aviator, instructor at NAS Miramar and as a landing signals officer, he wrote his first book, "Fair Winds, Following Seas, and a Few Bolters."
Leading up to his present role, Mr. McKenna began his career as an engineer for Delta Air Lines in 1981. Following his military service, he was an attorney with Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher LLP in 1997 and became a senior trial attorney for the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in 2010. After retiring from the SEC in 2022, in addition to promoting his book and website, Mr. McKenna works as a part-time attorney handling insurance defense work.
Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have received a Pro Bono Award from the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center in 2005.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. McKenna earned a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering (co-operative program) from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985. Following this achievement, he attained a Juris Doctor (summa cum laude) from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1994. Looking to the future, Mr. McKenna intends to write a novel, having gained a wealth of varied experiences from which to draw.
