During the early stages of her career, Dr. Azizi gained valuable expertise in the field of wireless communications through Intel Corporation, where she started her career as a firmware engineer in 2000 and quickly rose to become the firmware lead and systems engineering manager for Intel's very first two Wi-Fi products, marketed as Intel's Centrino Platform, which revolutionized laptop computing. She continued her work by designing and developing physical layer algorithms for various wireless technologies. During 2013-2018, Shahrnaz was one of Intel's lead delegates to the IEEE 802.11 standards. Her current research at Intel Labs is in applications of Machine Learning in wireless communication and devices. Outside of her work, she contributes to her community as a volunteer judge for science fairs. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Azizi aligns herself with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
An expert in her field, Dr. Azizi holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering from the Sharif University of Technology. Subsequently, she expanded upon her professional knowledge, earning a Master of Science from the Iran University of Science and Technology and a PhD in electrical, electronics, and communications engineering with a focus on signal processing from Arizona State University. In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Azizi won many awards from Intel Corporation and IEEE.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Azizi is most proud of a few patent applications that went directly to the IEEE 802.11 Standards. The cornerstone of her success lay in her interest in continuously learning, flexibility, remaining open to feedback, and her ability to collaborate with others. Likewise, she has had many wonderful teachers who became her mentors. Looking toward the future, Dr. Azizi aims to continue contributing to wireless technology development and helping others, especially women, to thrive in engineering to enhance the life of people across the globe.
