Since 1990, he has focused his efforts on treating patients as well as overseeing the hygienists within his practice. His research interests hone in on how stress can be manifested in the mouth and how these can influence changes in the structures residual in the mouth from years of a patient experiencing stress. He also lends his expertise as a member to the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

Additionally, he has been the owner of Conway Oral Healthcare since 1990 and has served as a member of the board of directors for The New Hampshire Professionals Health Program since 2002.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Hirschfeld began his career as a general practice resident in dentistry with Mount Sinai Medical Center continuing as a dental resident in clinical anesthesiology. Upon completion of the training, he became an assistant attending dentist with Mount Sinai Hospital in 1985 and a clinical instructor for Mount Sinai School of Medicine. At the same time, he served as an assistant professor of oral medicine focusing on pain control with New York University in 1985, becoming a research associate in 2006. He subsequently functioned as the president of the board of directors for the New Hampshire Professionals Health Program from 2016 until 2021.
Dr. Hirschfeld is an alumnus of Stuyvesant High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from New York University's Washington Square University College in 1977. Following this achievement, he attained a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the New York University College of Dentistry in 1982. Within the coming years, Dr. Hirschfeld intends to retire, having spent his career refining his skills and investigating novel techniques to bring the best possible care to his patients.
