Launching his private practice in Guilford, Connecticut, in 2003, his company specializes in medical oncology, focusing on oncology clinical development and regulatory affairs. Dr. Springgate also co-founded a biotechnology company called Galectin Therapeutics, which concentrates on discovery and development. Moreover, he has spent over 35 years as a consultant physician providing second opinions.
Highly accomplished in oncology, immunology, and drug and biologics development, Dr. Springgate formerly served as the chief medical officer of oncology and immunology at Glycogenesys in Boston from 1999 to 2003. Spearheading numerous initiatives, including drug development strategy and FDA submissions, he also collaborated with the MD Anderson Cancer Center for several years regarding prostate cancer indication with patients that had previously failed standard treatment. Among other objectives, Dr. Springgate has conducted numerous clinical trials.
Among other noteworthy roles, Dr. Springgate was the vice president of clinical and regulatory affairs for CMO immunology and oncology for the National Medical Research Corporation in Hartford, Connecticut, and the chief medical officer of immunology and oncology for the Clinical Research Group in Englewood, New Jersey. During an earlier stage of his career, he was a medical director and attending physician for clinical immunology laboratories at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic. Dr. Springgate also taught in the classroom as an assistant professor in the department of microbiology and immunology at Tulane Medical Center.
Dr. Springgate's extensive education includes a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Boston University, a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry at Boston College in 1972, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami in 1983. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include a residency and fellowship in clinical pathology at Tulane Medical Center. Dr. Springgate received a medical license in Connecticut and board certification in clinical pathology through the American Board of Pathology.
