With more than two decades of excellence as a researcher and scientist, Ms. Mekic has earned distinction as a principal petrophysicist for data science and sensor physics with Weatherford. Since 2017, she has focused her efforts on developing novel algorithms and workflows for their products and services, utilizing innovative technology to interpret data for the oil and gas industry. In recognition of her stellar work, she was presented with a Silver Coin for Innovation and Excellence from Weatherford. A top researcher in her field, she holds 14 patents, three of which are pending.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Mekic began her career as a faculty member for the geophysics department for the University of Belgrade in Serbia in 1994 and became a senior geophysicist for Blackhawk Geoservices in 2002. She subsequently served as a senior geoscientist for Baker Hughes in 2004, earning a promotion to a geoscience manager in 2008 and to a geoscientist advisor in 2011. Among her professional accomplishments, she was honored with a Silver Award for Innovation and Excellence for her work with Baker Hughes.
Following this period, Ms. Mekic was a senior scientific advisor for petrophysics applications as well as a manager for the integrated interpretation team in the sensor physics and technology department at Halliburton in 2014. She was promoted to a senior industry solutions advisor for petrophysics, Landmark software and services in 2016. To prepare for her career in research and science, she earned a Bachelor of Science for geophysical engineering and geology and a Master's degree in geophysics, both from the University of Belgrade.
Over the course of her career, Ms. Mekic besides her contribution for oil and gas industry, she also has contributed a wealth of research to her field in professional journals and conferences, such as the Annual Conference on Applied Geophysics and NDT Technologies and Methods to Transport Facilities and Infrastructure. She was also a co-author for "Evaluation of Drilled Shafts at Piney Creek Bridge Using Crosshole Sonic Logging Data and 3D Tomographic Imaging Methods" for the Federal Highway Administration's Central Federal Lands Highway Division in 2001, which was a significant contribution for American standards for the construction of bridges. Their team also evaluated the integrity of the concrete to improve the stability of the bridges and made sure it's stable to sustain the loads of the bridges, including extending the life of bridges. The technology they used is called cross-hole sonic logging and tomographic imaging.
More recently, Ms. Mekic co-authored "Using Nuclear Spectroscopy in Cased Hole Wells to Estimate Petrophysical Properties and Hydrocarbon Saturation in South America Freshwater Sands"," which was featured by the Society of Petroleum Engineers where during the course of her career she published over 20 papers featured by the Society of Petrophysicists and Well-Log Analysts, Society of Exploration Geophysicists and others. Looking to the future, Ms. Mekic intends to continue her work, earning further recognitions to become a petrophysics fellow and inspirational leader for young professionals pursuing STEM careers.
