Ms. Rieck is the owner and therapist behind Epijennetics Counseling & Consulting, through which she encourages individuals to explore mental shifts that can lead to healthy expressions of self and healthy connections to others. Prior to entering into the mental health sphere as a counselor, she began her career in microbiology.
After receiving an Associate of Science from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Ms. Rieck went on to earn a bachelor's in clinical laboratory science from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and became a certified medical technologist in microbiology via the American Society for Clinical Pathology. For 10 years, she worked as a medical technologist in microbiology at VCU Health System Authority at MCV Hospitals; Bostwick Laboratories, a division of PathAI Diagnostics, where she also applied her expertise as a quality assurance specialist; and at Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Coupled with her science background and understanding of epigenetics, Ms. Rieck shifted her focus from microbiology to therapy and counseling. After being married to a partner with narcissistic personality disorder for 10 years, and experiencing all the trauma and confusion that resulted from that relationship, she set out gain an understanding of personality disorder and other mental health problems that impact relationship functioning. Such a curiosity led her to earn a master's degree in mental health counseling from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 2020 and become a national certified counselor through the National Board for Certified Counselors, a licensed professional counselor and licensed professional clinical counselor via the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, and a certified clinical telemental health provider by Evergreen Certifications.
In pursuit of her master's, Ms. Rieck applied her knowledge at the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago as a behavioral health intern and, following graduation, joined Ammirati Counseling as a licensed professional counselor part time. Following her time there, she counseled individuals, couples, and families at Living Pono Counseling for 3 years. In 2023, she opened Epijennetics Counseling & Consulting in Libertyville, Il, and partnered with Grow Therapy, an online platform that aims to broaden access to therapy by providing insurance coverage for therapy. She continues to serve as a licensed clinical professional counselor and concurrently devotes her time to her own counseling and consulting enterprise, which she established recently.
Coupled with her in-person and virtual counseling and consulting services, Ms. Rieck also launched Epijennetics the website in an effort to reach individuals who may not readily have access to therapy or counseling services. Epijennetics.com houses a wealth of information and insights, including writings about relationship patterns that emerge in different types of relationships, such as those made up of one narcissistic partner and one self-sacrificing partner, and has been accessed by individuals in over 180 countries. In all she has pursued and achieved in sharing, she attributes her success to her knowledge and understanding of patterns behind different types of mental health problems. Such an understanding and her ability to write about it enables her to help others.
Moreover, Ms. Rieck cites her mindset as a therapist, who is passionate about helping others and believes that individuals can change when they possess an understanding of their epigenetics and patterns, as the driving force behind her success. Overall, her goal as a therapist and relationship educator is to reach as many individuals as possible and continue to evolve her offerings. To date, she is most proud of her website and the fact that it has reaches so many individuals, providing them with new information and tools to help themselves and nurture their relationships.
Moving forward, Ms. Rieck aims to continue to expand her reach. Driven by her goal of reaching a wider audience, she plans to distill all the content from her website into a book and publish it. Outside of her role as a therapist in the mental health space, Ms. Rieck is a civic-minded individual and active participant in her local community; she has served as a sponsor for Compassion International, volunteered with the local PADS ministry at her church, and devoted her time as a volunteer mentor for Kids Hope USA.
