Rita M. Curl-Langager, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Curl-Langager has been active as a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Gerontological Society of America.

Curl-Langager, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Curl-Langager celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Dr. Curl-Langager is a professor emeritus who taught at Minot State University in the department of addiction studies, psychology, and social work and the department of education and psychology between 1991 and 2018. Her distinguished tenure included teaching multiple courses in psychology including adolescent development, adult development and aging, industrial-organizational psychology, applied behavior analysis, and a capstone course. Furthermore, Dr. Curl-Langager was chairperson or officer for several campus committees.

Having taught higher education for over 30 years, Dr. Curl-Langager previously spent five years as an educator at Utah State University beginning in 1986, serving as a research assistant professor in the special education department and as an adjunct associate professor in the psychology department. She was also a research associate on campus between 1985 and 1991. Dr. Curl-Langager held several other appointments at the University of Kansas from 1978 to 1985. During an earlier stage of her career, she taught at EP!C in Peoria, Illinois, was a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois Child Development Laboratory, and, among other roles, was a teacher at the Orchard Downs Infant Day Care Center in Urbana, Illinois.

A talented writer, Dr. Curl-Langager recently completed a 12-chapter psychology textbook on adulthood, which will be accompanied by an instructor's manual. The book is titled "Adulthood: An Introduction" and the manual will be titled "Instructor's Manual for Adulthood: An Introduction," released via Routledge Taylor & Francis Group. As a scholar, Dr. Curl-Langager previously authored chapters to several books. She also published various manuscripts, reports, manuals, and other publications, co-authored numerous scholarly articles in various peer-reviewed journals, and was reviewer and guest reviewer for multiple professional publications. Moreover, she has served as a director for many projects, including the North Dakota Project for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and Encore: An Entrepreneurial Model Utilizing Nonprofessional Co-Workers as Sources of Employment Support.

Dr. Curl-Langager co-chairs the International Peace Garden's capital campaign committee, a role she has upheld since 2021, and serves on the board of directors for the Garden. She has been involved in civic-related activities since the mid-1990s.

Dr. Curl-Lanager graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1974, a Master of Science in child development and family relationships from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976, and a Doctor of Philosophy in developmental and child psychology from the University of Kansas in Lawrence in December, 1982. Additionally, Dr. Curl-Langager received an elementary education teaching certificate for grades K–9.

Aligned with several professional organizations supporting her career, Dr. Curl-Langager has been active as a member of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Gerontological Society of America. She was also a presidential candidate, chairperson, and task force member of several committees for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and a chairperson of the aging work group for the American Association of University Affiliated Programs.

In addition to securing numerous grants for her work and serving as a principal investigator for nine of them, Dr. Curl-Langager received several accolades, including an Award for Outstanding Research Presentation for the Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy, A Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Poster Presentation for the Association for Behavior Analysis, and recognition as the Exchangite of the Year by the Minot Exchange Club as a former president and president-elect.
