Mr. Cantanzaro's military career spanned from 1986 to 2020, during which he held several key positions, including as a civil liaison team chief for the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade from 2010 to 2012 and subsequently as a battalion commander for the 96th Civil Affairs Battalion (Special Operations) between 2012 and 2014. His leadership and mentorship were particularly notable during his tenure as battalion commander for a special operations civil affairs battalion, where he and his soldiers engaged with civilians and military partnered forces across multiple countries in the Middle East and Central Asia.
Mr. Cantanzaro earned an undergraduate degree in Russian studies from George Mason University in 1999, a Master of Science in defense analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in 2006, and a Master of Science in national security strategy from the National War College in 2015.
Civically invested, Mr. Catanzaro is a former member of the board of the Civil Affairs Association, a nonprofit organization that supports and connects veterans of the U.S. civil affairs community.
