Prior to his current position, in the past two decades, DeGaulle Cabinda MD has held several positions of increasing responsibilities within drug safety in several pharmaceutical companies including Bristol Myers Squibb, Abbott Laboratories (Abbvie), Astellas Pharmaceutical, Gilead Sciences, Vertex Pharmaceutical. Prior to this, he was in clinical practice for 7 years.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Cabinda completed his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in 1989, laying the foundation for his expertise in general medicine. His academic journey also includes certifications such as the USMLE from the American Medical Association in 1997 and specialized training in pharmacovigilance and drug safety from various prestigious organizations. These qualifications have been pivotal in his success and his ability to excel as a global safety physician.
Throughout his career, Dr. Cabinda has been involved in groundbreaking work that has had a significant impact on public health notably, he played a crucial role in the regulatory approval a heat-resistant formulation for a protease inhibitor for HIV, which was a pioneering solution for patients in the sub-Sahara region of Africa lacking a reliable cold supply chain. Additionally, he was part of the team and research program in diabetes that achieved remarkable success: curing the first type I diabetic patient in the world in 2021.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Cabinda is deeply committed to mentoring black physicians aspiring to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Recognizing the underrepresentation of black physicians in pharmacovigilance and drug safety, he has dedicated himself over the last decade to coaching and mentoring numerous black physicians to increase diversity within the field.
