After immigrating to the USA in 2001 with his wife Ethiopia Desta, he then expanded his industry knowledge by completing an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism through Wayne State University and Detroit Medical Center in Michigan. After completion of his post-graduate studies in 2009, he found success as a distinguished clinician in endocrinology at CaroMont Health in Gastonia, North Carolina. He then joined the staff of the Greensboro based Cone Health in North Carolina in 2014. A lifelong learner, he added a new specialty of lifestyle medicine in 2022 with a new board certification through American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
A seasoned medical professional with 25 years of experience, Dr. Nida excels as a consultant physician specializing in endocrinology, diabetes, metabolism, and lifestyle medicine with Cone Health Reidsville Endocrinology Associates, through which he caters to patients in the vast Triad area of North Carolina and neighboring counties of Virginia. In this capacity, he aims to prevent and reverse chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. A triple board-certified physician, Dr. Nida is also the chair of Cone Health's Lifestyle Medicine Committee. His unique mix of expertise allows him to practice medicine in a Collaborative Care Model to deliver whole person care to his patients working with his colleagues at Cone Health.
Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field of medicine, Dr, Nida aligns himself with the American Board oflnternal Medicine, the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine, the American Diabetes Association, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the North Carolina Medical Society. In conjunction with his work, Dr. Nida has also contributing to his community as founder of the Greensboro chapter of Walk With a Doc, which provides free health education and walking programs in communities worldwide, and as a board member for the Annie Penn Hospital Foundation.
An outdoors enthusiast, he enjoys long distance running as a hobby. Starting active life at age 39, he raced and completed 35 marathons so far including 6 Boston Marathon races, and 3 world major marathons with a personal best time of 2:47:09 at age 48.
Given his outstanding achievements, Dr. Nida has received the highest awards in all medical disciplines he participated in during undergraduate and postgraduate training to acquire his current specialties.
Dr. Nida shares his humbling life experiences with challenges of poverty during his early life. He walked to school bare foot for several hours daily and left home at age 12 in pursuit of education.
